Great Uncle John’s Tarantula Juice IPA - ABV 5.5%
This is part of our Great Uncle John range, which honours the memory of founder Rik’s descendant who brewed in 1930s Canada. This is a traditionally hazy and juicy New England IPA featuring the Pekko and Sultana hop varieties from the US, both of which were not around when Great Uncle John was tending to his mash tun. On the other hand, he might have been enchanted by the rich interplay between light caramel and ripe stone fruit and joyful pineapple on the nose, the kind of aromatic temptation that gets the taste buds clambering to rush into action, and then further enthralled by more of this fruity one-two, the soothing mouth feel and the dry finish, which lingers like the call of wild geese heading home for the night’s roost. And once again we stress no spiders were harmed in the making of this beer.
Hops: Pekko, Sultana
Food pairing: This one is simple, it is time for cheese, perhaps the sharpest and tangiest Cheddar you can find, which dovetails with the fruitiness of the beer, while a well-matured, salty and creamy Stilton will also prove to be a wow with the beer. Ready, steady, salivate.
Also available as a 9 pint mini keg.

At the Frome Brewing Company Ltd we work with an extremely talented and knowledgeable team of brewers. We pride ourselves on producing the highest quality beers and we're not going to send anything out of our doors that we wouldn't want to drink ourselves. We do like to experiment - but more importantly, we're all about balancing delicate flavours to produce easy drinking beers.
In other words... "it's all about the beer!"
Brewing takes place up to five times a week, with malt from Warminster, hops from Charles Faram and our very own yeast. Our yeast, which is a similar strain to Youngs, is particularly versatile. Our beers are all vegan (but they're not gluten free).
We have a diverse range of beers with colours, strengths and flavours to suit all palates - if you're not sure what to go for, try a mixed case and we'll send you a selection of our finest.
Don't forget you can use code LOVEBEER10 for 10% off your order, and if you spend over £100 you'll get 15% of automatically. Enjoy!
I LOVE the RA pale ale, it was my favourite – but the Tarantula Juice is even better. It is fruity and delicious. It’s now my go-to for showing friends how good Frome Brewing Company’s beer is, my only hesitation being a reluctance to deplete my own supply.
When I saw Tarantula Juice had been brewed again and was available in cans, I had to purchase some again. I originally got a wide range of beers from Frome during the first COVID lockdown with an aim to support smaller UK businesses. The beers were of a good quality and most suited my tastes. At the end of my case I was left with the weird sounding beer which had ingredients which did not initially sell the beer to me. When I finally tried a cold Tarantula juice on a hot day in the summer of 2020 my mind was blown away. I am now drinking it in the freezing conditions of Winter 2022 and it is still thoroughly enjoyable.
An ipa with a slightly red fruit Tinge to its citrus flavours, not sure I’d like it but I’m actually a big fan now
The Tarantula IPA is an extremely tasty beer with undertones of fruit it i an extremely taste beer lovely cold in the garden with a BBQ burger
